Those that tired of the Earths governments have found ways to leave, establishing colonies within this portion of our galaxy. A few of these colonies have formed the Draconis Empire (named after the colony that originally formed the alliance). This empire is purely an alliance to protect the colonies and to search out new races and resources. In the time since the mass exodus most colonies have progressed technologically farther and faster than Earth. Without certain laws and governments slowing them down and with new problems arising that Earth would never encounter the colonies created medicines, weapons, and propulsion faster and better. In the 50 years since the establishment of the Draconis Empire, 12 colonies have banded and many alien civilizations have been discovered, some of which are space fairing and a few have refused to ally themselveswith humans. A minor number of alien civilizations have even declared war with humans for one reason or another. Some of these "aggressive cultures" even have superior technology. Yet the colonies endure. The Draconis Empire keeps the knowledge of Earth a secret from most civilizations and vice versa. Earth has also discovered a few friendly species, but the Empire believes that they’re ill equipped to deal with any of the advanced aliens that have been discovered to date. The colonies also doubt that Earth would be a good example of human kind to other species.
