So I decided something needed to be done. The best decision was to build something that would not only allow for more storage but also slightly raise the appearance of my house.

I actually started with a schamatic while watching TV one night. When asked I just replied that I was "Fart'n around". I didn't want to imply any promising future builds. About a month later I went out and bought the supplies I needed from Home Depot and got started. Because of money concerns I had to cut back on the original plans and only build 4 of the )originally planned) 5 drawers. I decided to turn that space for the 5th drawer into a second shelf. Basically, I raised the existing bar up nearly a foot (along with the top shelf) and installed a smaller bar at the mid-way point on the left so that the left side has two bars for colthes with exactly 3 feet of height apiece. The right side uses the other end of the top bar for taller clothes (dress, coats...). Below the right side and the drawers is the space deticated for shoes.

Next I finished installing the shelves and cover up the smaller portion at the very top as to conceal the middle of the bar. My original plan called for a secret door in its place with concealed hinges that I even purchased but I didn't bother. I had planned on it being a good spot to hide checkbooks and other small valueables but in the end it wasn't worth the trouble. As you can see I also built a second shelf for shoes. My original plans actually called for three layers of shoes but after getting a closer look at the height of some of her shoes I decided they'd be squished if I did that.

Here's the first (and biggest) drawer. It's unsanded and not painted but I put it in anyway to check out how it'd look. I've since built the other three and soon the sanding and painting will begin!
