There's a small ally between my house an my garage that gets extremely dark at night. The previous owner put in a set of small lights that ran off their own timer/converter which was plugged into an outlet in the garage. Well, recently the timer portion of the setup failed completely. The converter still worked but I had to manually turn the lights on and off from the garage. This quickly became a pain and something had to be done.

So I did some searching online and found a digital timer at Lowes. Instead of just controlling something that was plugged into it, this timer wired into the existing outlet and controlled the whole thing. Another big bonus is that it holds up to 7 different programs and can also run those different programs for each day of the week. I may never need these extra functions but they're nice to have and if I'm going to spent the time and money it may as well be worth it.

To the left is the existing outlet box. I've already removed the wiring and cut the conduit in preperation for the new box. The original plan was to put the new timer above the existing outlet box, but I quickly released that the timer fills up the new 2"x4" box and there's no room for the wiring and wire nuts. So I ended up running the wiring throught the small top box and then back up to it (left). This wasn't really a problem and now there's plenty of room for everything internal.

The finished product! Later on I'll replace the light's old timer/converter with just a simple converter. I like this end result because it's clean, simple, and I'll also be able to plug in Christmas lights or other extras in the future.
